1983 First pioneer in sports medicine
1984 First Sports Injuries Clinic in Hong Kong established at the Prince of Wales Hospital
1988 First Founding President of the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine (HKASMSS)
1990 First regional promoter to various international sports medicine associations including Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM), International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (APOSSM) (1990-2000)
1995 First Childhood Injury Research and Prevention Group
1996 First Sports Medicine Centre designated as the WHO Collaborating Centre in Sports Medicine and Health Promotion (1996-2009)
2002 First Asian Presidency of International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) (2002-2006)
2004 First Taught Programs (MSc & PgDip) in Sports Medicine & Health Sciences organized by a university in Hong Kong
2007 First SMART (Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation Therapy) Convention
2008 First World Congress of Sports Trauma (WCST) & Annual Congress of Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (APOSSM) held in Hong Kong;
First established centre in Sports Medicine and Health Sciences with the generous donation of HKD 88.72 million from Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust
2010 First International Symposium of Ligaments and Tendons (ISL&T) held in Hong Kong
2011 First CUHK Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) Conference held in Hong Kong
2013 First launch of Sport Medicine And Regenerative Technology (SMART) programme in the Institute of Innovative Medicine (IIM) and Musculoskeletal Regenerative Research Network (MRN)
2014 Academic visits to Karolinska Institutet, UMC Utrecht and Stanford Unviersity - three key collaborators of LCWIIM-SMART program and MRN. Signed a MOU with UMC Utrecht in June and with Stanford University in November respectively
2015 Co-organized the 1st International Symposium of Musculoskeletal Regenerative Research Network (MRN), June 1-2, 2015, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Academic visit to Odense University Hospital, Denmark and signed a MOU in June.

Our Programmes

MSc & PgDip in Sports Medicine and Health Science

We are the first and only taught programme in sports medicine in Hong Kong since 2004 and have fostered more than 400 sports medicine professionals in a decade. We aim not only to provide advanced academic training to health care and sports professionals, but also promote sports injury prevention in the community.

Echoing our Faculty motto "Transforming our passion into perfection", our key role is to cultivate students' ability to become excellent specialists in sports medicine. The programme emphasizes practical skills and hands-on experience. We offer unique opportunities to expose students to genuine medical practice through practicum and workshops. Students are expected to develop outstanding clinical, academic and research skills through specialized electives. Furthermore, the programme is under annual review by world-class faculty for quality assurance and continual improvement in today's ever-changing world to keep abreast of the latest advances in sports medicine and health science.
